Alexander Thom Cringan
Music Program
In 1886, Mr. A.T. Cringan was appointed Supervisor of Music along with his assistant Mr. A.P. Perrin. Regular classroom teachers instructed their own students under the guidance of both Cringan and Perrin. Instruction included the Tonic Sol Fa system in the lower grades and the musical notation in the senior grades. By 1890, senior students were being tested on key, time signatures, printed bars of music, transposition, musical symbols, musical terms, and more.
