    First Telephone in Toronto School Board

    The Bell Telephone Company of Canada was established in 1881 setting up an exchange and switchboard in Toronto and other cities across Canada. In 1882, the Board of Education’s Secretary-Treasurer’s office (William C. Wilkinson) was connected to the central office of the Bell Telephone Company “by special wire and transmitter.” In 1889, a telephone was installed in the office of the Superintendent of Buildings, C.H. Bishop.
