    Request for Telephone Service Denied

In 1879, five years after the invention of the telephone, Toronto’s first telephone book was published. A motion to the Board of Education was put forth that year to have the three advanced schools, namely Wellesley, Ryerson and Dufferin, and the School Board Offices in “telephonic connection” with the head office of the Central District Telephone Company. The motion was defeated.
