    The Need for Technical Education

An 1891 motion by Toronto City Council to establish a technical school put Toronto on the cutting edge of such education in Canada. Charged with investigating technical education in North America, the Public Library Management Board recognized the need, as well as the magnitude of the venture, and recommended forming a committee to plan the school's structure and oversight. Council's motion to establish Toronto Technical School in St. Lawrence Hall passed, and classes began January 26th, 1892.
