1882 City Model School Opened

  • Postcard of the Normal School, Toronto, Canada

A system of County Model Schools had been established in Ontario as training schools for third-class teachers. None were located in Toronto as the Model School at the Normal School was for higher certificates. In June 1879, the Board of Education requested that the Standing Committee on School Management report on the feasibility of turning one or more of the city public schools into a City Model School. Its purpose would be as a training school for third-class teachers belonging to Toronto.
