    First Meeting

The Ontario Society of Artists was founded in 1868 by a small group of like-minded artists who met in the home of John A. Fraser. Bringing together painters, sculptors, illustrators and graphic designers the society is Canada’s oldest continuously operating society. Toronto’s public schools enjoyed close ties with the Society in its early years and it often advised schools on suitable artists and works for their collections.
