    Ryerson Statue Unveiled

On May 24th, 1889 (Queen Victoria’s birthday) a memorial statue was unveiled on the grounds of the Education Department (the present site of Ryerson University, Toronto) in appreciation for the work, leadership and years of service that Egerton Ryerson gave creating the modern education system of Ontario. Although Ryerson retired in 1876 and died in 1882, his family was deeply touched by the memorial statue and stated so in a letter sent by his son to J. George Hodgins, Chairman of the Ryerson Memorial Committee.
