    Music Programme

Although linear drawing and music are included in the School Act of 1871, it took a few years for them to be implemented in the school system. Adopted in 1872 by the Toronto Board as regular studies for one hour per week each, they were regarded more as school recreation and not required for all students. Linear Drawing was a required subject only for students in the Fifth book while Vocal Music was offered to both Senior and Intermediate Divisions.
