    New Schools

In 1851, the newly elected school board purchased land on which to build three new schools: Louisa Street, George Street, and Park. A school design competition was held with advertisements placed in the local Toronto papers. The successful designs had separate male and female departments, each with their own playground and entrance. Construction began on each in 1852.
